Spotlight Fall Showcase

Last Sunday was Spotlight's Fall Showcase.  As I've probably mentioned, I was choreographer again this semester and had a blast choreographing the show this semester.  What I had the most fun choreographing, however, was Lady Gaga's "Applause".  It was just so much fun and had me tape into the more hip-hop side of my dancer self.  Needless to say, it was great.

This is my sixth semester in Spotlight and oftentimes this semester found me reminiscing about old semesters and the people I wouldn't have met if it weren't for Spotlight.  Ahh, senior year.

Halloween 2013

This year's Halloween was filled with firsts.  A group of friends and I finally trick-or-treated the President of The College, photo documentation and all.  As you can see, I was the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland.  Fitting for the blog, don't you think?

This weekend, I also attended a party fit for autumn and the eerie holiday.  The house was on a tiny street off the highway, surrounded with complete darkness.  We had spaghetti squash, sangria, and s'mores...pardon my alliteration.

Now that the Halloween's over and the fall temperature has once again joined us, I've only got a few more semi-stressful weeks until I get to go back home.  :)

This past weekend was the interim time between classes and finals.  And as it is every year, the entire campus was one continuous party.  Friday, the last day of classes, LDOC, known more affectionately as Blowout, consisted of carnival rides, free food, and lots of people-watching.  I had a lot of fun; I think I spent it appropriately and well.

My friends and I have come up with a brilliant plan for next year's Blowout (even though we probably shouldn't even be thinking that far ahead).  Friday morning will consist of brunch, ringing the Wren Bell together, assorted festivities ...appropriate to Blowout, and no schoolwork.  I can't even believe how quickly this year went by, and how quickly senior will also.  Even so, I've haven't wasted away junior year, so for that I am glad.

Being in (the) Spotlight

This past Sunday was the final Spotlight show of the semester.  I've mentioned it a few times, but this was my first showcase as choreographer.  It was a bit nervewracking to have a group of people performing my work.  But it all came together, after a super stressful week, and I was really happy with the final product.

My Valentine's Day has been postponed to tomorrow.  I had an extremely busy day today, so the festivities will have to wait until tomorrow.  My friends and I are making pizzas in the evening and I'm making chocolate covered strawberries and hanging out with a friend hopefully later in the evening.

Summer's officially here! How do I know? It's far too hot here and my day consists of...well, nothing really.

But I'm not here to complain about having nothing to do, I'm here to physically list out my goals and expectations for next fall semester. Grades for the spring semester were posted a few weeks ago and they were not stellar. I'd been edging around the topic whenever my mom would bring it up, but knew that I'd eventually tell her what they were.

I was pretty disappointed with myself in regard to my grades, predominantly because with the amount of free time I had during the week, I spent very little of it doing additional studying. It's no one's fault but mine, but it's hard for me to change. In high school, I got by with fairly good grades doing little to no work on most assignments. The amount of effort that I would put into my assignments would get me pretty far, but I've soon realized that that same amount of effort got me far less in college courses. I don't know, maybe the transition between not trying and actually trying is a little hard for me. Well, I guess three months trapped in my house will give me time to 'think about what I've done.'

So essentially I'm writing this post in order to list my goals..which are as follows:

1. B's and higher next semester

2. preferably 1-2 A's...can't expect too much, now can I? I'll even accept the A's being in labs.

3. have a plan for undergrad research for the Spring

4. been a good Social Chair for Spotlight

5. read the textbook for my classes..

Optional: have fun (jk...)

The title for this blog post comes from a Skype conversation I was having with my friend about this very subject a few weeks back. He's one of my closest friends and I miss him dearly. =]

Oh free time, I had forgotten how much I loved you...

Ahh I finally have my four precious hours from 5pm to 9pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays back to myself. At least, for the most part. Two of my extra-curriculars essentially ended this past weekend. I had AIA Championships on Saturday and my Spring Showcase for Show Choir on Sunday. So needless to say, this weekend was busyy.

But the best news that came out off this entire weekend and possibly the semester didn't even involve me or WM. MY HIGH SCHOOL GUARD WON FIRST PLACE IN AIA PRELIMS AND FINALS!! Take that, Mr. Robinson. But oh my gosshh, I was so excited and happy and proud and all of those other positive emotions that people frequently feel. I was about to cry, I just love them and guard and organization and dedication and...wait, I believe I've segued. I'm just happy, is all.

And as of about an hour and a half ago, my friends and I got a 6-person block in Old Campus and my classes for next fall are all lined up..well kind of. The classes I'm in right now are:

- Organic Chemistry II

- General Physics I/Lab

- US Women's History from 1600 - 1879

- Environmental Sociology

Well, I still need to get into my Orgo lab. And Intro to Multivariable Calc would be pretty nice, seeing as I need that for my major. But I'm actually super excited for my classes, they should be fun.
