Down to the Wire

Three weeks left to the semester and I (along with every other person I've spoken to in the past week) am freaking out.  I'm used to papers and assignments being due the last week of classes, but I have never been this stressed out about how I would get it all done.

What my near future looks like:

I am trying to keep a bit of sanity however.  AMP's Fridays at Five have started up again for the remainder of the semester and yesterday, I heard the wonderful Owen Danoff and friends play on the Terrace.  Gorgeous day, a reallyy attractive lead singer, and good music.  It almost made me forget about the marathon of work I'll have to look forward to for the next three weeks.

Music Mondays

Today was a long day.  Class registration at 7am, and any and all free time I had was spent on studying for the PChem exam that was tonight.  I've used up all my brain energy.  But luckily that's all behind me now.  And the rest of the week is looking good; the weather's shaping up to be sunny and in the 50's and I have nothing else due by the end of this week.

Here are a few songs that I've been listening to during my studying marathon.

Passion Pit's music video for "Cry Like a Ghost" came out very today and I would feel like a horrible fangirl if I didn't post it here:

"Fitzpleasure" alt-J

"I Love Lamp" RDGLDGRN

"Always Gold" Radical Face

Hope everyone had a good start to the week!  :)

S-T-R-E-S-S-E-D is just D-E-S-S-E-R-T-S spelled backwards

We've reached that horrible time in the semester; when the list of "things that stand between me and Spring Break" feels a mile long.  I have three exams, a PChem lab report, and a PChem problem set due before I can get on the bus home.  I wasn't feeling stressed about it last night, but after getting back an exam and problem set this morning...it's starting to get to me.  Grades..are not where they should be.  So I'm feeling the pressure for these three coming up.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel however.  I've been getting spurts of happiness from food blogs.  While I'm still on a health kick, I've found some sweet recipes that I need to try soon:

So in the meantime, spending my study breaks on food blogs will have to suffice.

Stitches in Time

I've decided what I want for Christmas.  And putting it in print will solidify my desires, I feel.  I want...a sewing machine.  Nothing new, nothing shiny.  Just a working sewing machine.  My grandmother has one, and I may even ask if I can have that one.

I've been wanting a real hobby for a while now.  My roommate knits and I was thinking of starting because I love all of the cozy, winter things that can be knit.  Whether or not I actually obtain a sewing machine, I'm probably going to sew/make some skirts and scarves over the winter break.  There must be something in the winter air that makes me go to my creative place.  Any project ideas?

Now that I've gotten that off my chest, off to keep studying the dreaded PChem.  It's finals week for the next week and a half and I. am. scared.  It's beyond stressed or worry, it's now fear.  I just hope all goes well, and I still have another scintillating semester of PChem II in the spring.  Wish me luck!

Ready or not, here comes junior year.

Today was the first real day of junior year.  My parents and I drove down Sunday morning and they helped me move in.  After catching up with some friends for a couple days, the first day of classes arrived.

This semester I'm taking two pretty hard chem classes, so I'm anxious to see how I fare with it all.  Sad life of a hard science major: I have 12 hours of lecture and probably 16 hours of lab a week.  And that only counts for 15 credit hours this semester.  Ahhh.

I know it's a failed picture, but I feel like it would've been cool if I had positioned the camera correctly.  Oh well.

Earring display that I made a few weeks ago!  I bought the frame from Goodwill and had some lace saved for DIY projects.  :)

Dear Wall Art Reader...

I love looking through the apartment section of modcloth.com, even though I'm not buying from them anytime soon.  I just came across a couple things that I thought were worth mentioning.

As a Chem major, and a TWAMP, I thought this suit me well.

And I'm always looking for cool posters for my room.

Also, I found out yesterday at work that I won a Romwe giveaway of $30 and free tights.  The tights are chosen by Romwe, but I am now the proud owner of a $30 store coupon.  Needless to say, super excited.  Any ideas?  That plus my paycheck and my need for new boots (mine are starting to fall apart) will definitely satisfy my desire to go shopping during spring break.

Spring Forward, Fall Back

Ahh, I haven't updated this in over a month. It's getting down to the end of the semester and I still can't believe it's even sophomore year. I finally declared my Chemistry major last Monday, aka signed my death certificate for the rest of my college experience. But I'm making up for the upcoming hell by making the most of my weekends. :)

A bit of old news, but two Thursdays ago was the season finale of Project Runway. And I have to admit that I was upset by this season's winner. While there was no doubt that Anya designed beautiful clothes, she had very little versatility with her collection pieces and could not compare to the other contestants when it came to sewing ability. My favorite out of the finalists to win it was Viktor, even though I would've loved Anthony Ryan to win it from the beginning. His collection prior to PR was beautiful and I just loved it.

Falling Behind

I absolutely love the mid-60s it's been on campus for the past couple of days. My favorite part about fall is definitely being able to be more creative with my outfit choices (yes, this may be turning into a fashion blog). I wish I could post my outfit from today because I love it.
Also, I have to give Love kudos for making me love (no pun intended) their asymmetrical maxi dresses. I've never been a big fan of maxi dresses, or the 'short in front, long in back' dresses I've been seeing for a while, but they do it so well. Here's a link to fashion blogger, Rachel-Marie from jaglever, in the dress. Black and the maroon are my favorite colors. :) I may even try to recreate a dress like that for America Recycles Day, therefore using recyclable materials. That should be fun. I'll try to get pictures of that dress if I end up making it.

As for life, it's pretty busy. I will say that I have fallen behind in my classes, but hopefully a majority of Fall Break will be dedicated to catching up on Organic Chemistry II. The frustrating part of the course is that while it is really interesting, it's super difficult for me to internalize the reactions and mechanisms. Urgh. #chemmajorproblems

Tuesday, April 5

Oh free time, I had forgotten how much I loved you...

Ahh I finally have my four precious hours from 5pm to 9pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays back to myself. At least, for the most part. Two of my extra-curriculars essentially ended this past weekend. I had AIA Championships on Saturday and my Spring Showcase for Show Choir on Sunday. So needless to say, this weekend was busyy.

But the best news that came out off this entire weekend and possibly the semester didn't even involve me or WM. MY HIGH SCHOOL GUARD WON FIRST PLACE IN AIA PRELIMS AND FINALS!! Take that, Mr. Robinson. But oh my gosshh, I was so excited and happy and proud and all of those other positive emotions that people frequently feel. I was about to cry, I just love them and guard and organization and dedication and...wait, I believe I've segued. I'm just happy, is all.

And as of about an hour and a half ago, my friends and I got a 6-person block in Old Campus and my classes for next fall are all lined up..well kind of. The classes I'm in right now are:
- Organic Chemistry II
- General Physics I/Lab
- US Women's History from 1600 - 1879
- Environmental Sociology

Well, I still need to get into my Orgo lab. And Intro to Multivariable Calc would be pretty nice, seeing as I need that for my major. But I'm actually super excited for my classes, they should be fun.

Evolution (n) : a progress of formation or growth

Day Three of Birthday Week..or is it Day Four now? I'm not entirely sure, but I am sure that it was one of my roommate's birthday yesterday. Our birthdays seem to revolve around food and blindfolding. And fun for all involved. I am excited to see where our future Birthday Weeks will lead.

However, for the festivities of this birthday, we blindfolded my roommate and took her to Aroma's, a café near our dorm. After that, we were going back to our dorm..but made a little detour to the art museum on campus. Blindfolded, of course. Isn't the art museum closed, you ask? Why yes. But here at the College of William & Mary, the museum is visited quite often during the night..when it's closed. I won't be able to do it justice, but on one side of the museum there are large tubes of colored glass. The entire wall is lined with different colored tubes and it is pretty spectacular at night. So colored glass tubes + coincidentally placed ledge = diva poses.

And what I mean by that is:

As for the rest of my day, I think it went well. I had a test in Organic Chemistry today..which could have gone better, but I think it'll be okay. I'm just relieved that on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I only have four classes to worry about. Strange, isn't it? It's a tad ridiculous that I would prefer the days that I have all my classes. However, my Tuesdays and Thursdays are much more exhausting, with my internship, guard practice, and show choir rehearsal. And of course, Organic Chem lab..my favorite.

Be on the lookout for another side post I may be doing from time to time. For those of you who don't know, I spend about half of my free time while on the Internet on a fashion site called lookbook. It's where I get my fashion fix and sometimes even inspiration. The posts will mainly be for me to record any looks that I find particularly memorable, but if matters, it'll explain why I wear the crazy things I do.
